Alma Gene (Woody) McCombs passed away on October 14, 2010 at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, Iowa.

Gene was born on the family farm east of Knoxville on October 13, 1923, to Elda Ray & Faye Lucille Woody (Pearson). Gene knew from a very early age that teaching was her calling.

She graduated from Knoxville High School and received a 2-year teaching certificate from Central College in 1942. Her career in education began at McMillan School, a one-room schoolhouse near Knoxville. She received her undergraduate degree from Drake University in 1956 and went on to teach in Albia, Knoxville, and Des Moines.

After receiving her master’s degree from Drake in 1973, she became an
EMR consultant in the Des Moines Schools. Gene was most at home with her family,
her flowers, yard, and antiques.

Gene was formerly married to Jesse F. McCombs. Gene
passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Southern Hills Specialty Care Center
in Osceola at the age of 87 years and 1 day.

She was preceded in death by her sons
Kerry & Kirk McCombs, a sister Alice Marie Robinson, and her parents. Surviving are
her brother, Kenneth Frank Woody (Faye), daughter Elaine Mick (Bill), daughter-in-law
Dixie McCombs, grandchildren Michael McCombs, Misty Newman, Kelly McCombs, Keri
Kay Miller, Kristi Stuckey, Brian Mick, David Mick, Jennifer McCoy, Drew McCombs, and 14 great-grandchildren.
