Obituary for Alfred E Jones
A Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held on
Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 2:30 p.m.
Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa
There will be no visitation.
Memorials in honor of Alfred may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Baty Tucker Post 168 American Legion.
Alfred E. Jones was born on January 25, 1926, in Burr Oak, Kansas. He was the son of Evan and Racheal (Buster) Jones.
Alfred graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Iowa with the Class of 1944 and during high school ran with the track team. Alfred’s working career as a young man was interrupted when he enlisted in the Army of the United States in June 1946. He served as an X-Ray Technician and was discharged in July 1947.
Alfred and Lucille E. Reynolds met while Lucille was living in Pleasantville, Iowa and they were united in marriage on August 15, 1948, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Alfred continued his working career driving for the State of Iowa and then was employed as an electrician and in maintenance at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville.
Following his retirement, he drove motor homes for Winnebago Industries.
Alfred and Lucille enjoyed square dancing, motorcycle riding, boating, and camping. They had traveled to every state in the Union and loved life together until she passed away on October 27, 2009.
Alfred eventually became a resident in care facilities in Knoxville and passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at West Ridge Specialty Care at the advanced age of 90 years.
Alfred is survived by his three sons and their wives, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Alfred leaves a sister-in-law, Marjorie (Reynolds) Wards of Huntsville, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; his parents, Evan and Racheal Jones; his sister, Wilma Sage; his parents-in-law, James and Helda (Herlick) Reynolds; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Reynolds.
Alfred was a member of the Moose Lodge in Newton, Iowa.
