Alberta Mae (McVey) McMulin age 80 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012, at
the Iowa Methodist Medical Center of Des Moines.

Alberta was born June 5, 1932, in Knoxville the daughter of Lawrence and Leah (Truman)
McVey. Alberta was a graduate of Knoxville High School and after high school, she
attended and graduated from Broadlawns Nursing School of Des Moines.

She worked for a short time as a nurse in St. Louis before working as a nurse with
the V.A. Hospital of Knoxville. During her nursing career, she went back to school
and became a nurse practitioner. She worked at the V.A. Hospital for 33 years as
a nurse and later as a nurse practitioner. After her retirement, Alberta worked as a
nurse with the Knoxville Area Community Hospital for 10 years.

On August 19, 1961, in Knoxville, Alberta, and Richard Arthur McMulin were blessed
with 50 years of marriage and four children: Larry, Timothy, Jeannie, and Traci.

Alberta was very active. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church,
a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, N.A.R.F.E., and a former member
of the Gardening Club. Alberta was a wonderful seamstress and she also worked
with stained glass. She truly enjoyed raising her miniature donkeys and llamas.

Alberta is survived by her husband Richard McMulin of Knoxville; their children:
Larry McMulin and his wife Kathy of Bussey, Jeannie McMulin of Des Moines, and Traci
Hillestad and her husband Matthew of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren Andrew, Timothy,
Virginia “Ginny”, Audrey and Toril. Alberta is also survived by one sister Juanita
Maxon of Earlham.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Leah McVey; her son Timothy
McMulin; and one sister Katherine Drew.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16th, 2012 at the
First United Methodist Church of Knoxville with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating.
Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in rural Knoxville. Alberta McVey

Visitation for Alberta will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15th, at the Winfield Funeral Home with Alberta’s family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established for the Timothy McMulin Knoxville High School Scholarship
Fund.
