Alan Dale Carter, 68 of Melcher-Dallas, passed away Friday August 28, 2020 at the Comfort House in Pella.

Alan Dale Carter was born August 24, 1952, at Camp Pendleton, California to Gloyd and Lila Sparks Carter. When Alan was three the family moved to Knoxville, Iowa. He graduated from Knoxville High School in the class of 1970. Alan moved to Melcher-Dallas in 1974. He was united in marriage to his greatest love, Teresa Pack, on November 2, 1974. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, Erich.

Alan worked various jobs throughout his life; Hy-Vee, Hazelbaker Chevrolet, Armstrong, Hormel, AGI Grocery, and Firestone. In 1994, he medically retired from Firestone due to a back injury. He was busier after retirement, transporting local members of the community to their appointments, which he genuinely enjoyed.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was an Elder and Sunday, school Superintendent. He served on the board for Thrivent Marion County and Councilman of Melcher-Dallas. Alan was also a charter member of the Lions Club and was active in the Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue Volunteer Department.

Alan enjoyed searching for and purchasing Indian artifacts, fishing, hunting, traveling with family to see the USA and Canada, reading Steven King novels, watching the Minnesota Vikings, following the Chicago Cubs, and watching; Diners, Drive-In & Dives, the Kitchen, and American Pickers. He also enjoyed gambling trips with his mother to Osceola and Prairie Meadows.

He loved sitting on the deck watching the world go by with his family and grandchildren who will miss their “Papa”.

He will be remembered as: a man that loved the Lord with all his heart, the world’s greatest husband, the best dad, and Papa, being the GPS for the family, had the gift of gab, possessing a great sense of humor, and for being the greatest storyteller which led him to be a friend to so many people as he never met a stranger.

Alan is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Teresa Carter; children, Jennifer (Joshua) Coop and Erich (Holly) Carter; and grandchildren: Isabella Carter, Joshua Coop, Chloe Carter, Mileana (Milli) Coop, and Abigail Carter.

Preceding Alan in death were his parents, Gloyd and Lila Carter.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Melcher-Dallas. Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Lacona.Alan Dale Carter

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Memorials in Alan´s name may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church or the Melcher-Dallas Fire Department.
