Adrienna June (Gholson) Clark was born June 22, 1926, in Knoxville Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Nellie (Hand) Gholson, graduating from high school with the Class of 1944, and on April 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lewis Clark.
Lewis was working at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville when they were blessed with four children, David, Ruthanne, Christine, and Colleen.
Lewis, being a teacher by trade, gave an opportunity for the family to be adventuresome. And so began the journey …Lewis, Adrienna, and the children went around the world; California, Guam, Germany, Colorado, and back to Des Moines, Iowa where together they built a 30′ trimaran sailboat which was launched in the Mississippi River at Keokuk, Iowa in 1973.
They sailed down the river to New Orleans, across the Gulf of Mexico to Florida. They lived on the boat for the next 3 years sailing, fishing, exploring, and living life to the fullest.
A life many would only dream of!
Meanwhile, grandchildren began to appear, so they returned to Tampa Florida, and built a bigger boat. This one was a 40′ trimaran and when finished they returned to Florida Pine Island Sound and resumed their lifestyle, cruising in winter and camping in the summer.
This all ended, in Sept 2013, while returning from their annual summer camping trip, Adrienna had a stroke which turned into dementia. She passed away peacefully on September 25, 2016, at home in Gibsonton, Florida with Lewis by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings; Clover Arlene Gholson, Jauson Streeter, Cherri Pitcher, Jalene Wilson,
Harrison Gholson, Francesanne Fountain, Molly Schoonover, and Marita Mastrofski.
Adrienna is survived by her loving husband, Lewis, and children David (Jennifer), Ruthanne (Don) Wiser, Christene (George) Potter,
Colleen (Dennis) Carver and three sisters; Sally Garfield, Susan Gholson, and Michaleen Parks.
Adrienna will be missed by her beloved family, many relatives, and friends
The world is a little less bright.
