He married Ferne H. Keinfeldt (b.1912-d.2011) of Chariton, Iowa. They eloped in Unionville, Missouri, August 11, 1931.

Mr. And Mrs. Flanders owned the Gamble Store in St. Ignace for several years, purchasing it in 1955 and selling it to John and Maureen Lipnitz January 1, 1968. Mr. And Mrs. Flanders had lived in Sault Ste. Marie and Chicago, while working for the corporate hardware store.

They moved to Trout Lake after selling the St. Ignace store, and spent more than 40 years of winters in Florida. They developed property in Birch Shores for several years with their son, Larry, and his wife, Astrid.

He is survived by his wife; a son and his family, Larry and Astrid (nee Kessler), whom he married in Germany; four grandchildren and their families, Ingrid Flanders and George Bentz of Hood River, Oregon, Sandra and Jeff Griffith of Woodstock, Illinois, Michelle and Ed Dempsey of Negaunee, Marcella and Dennis Carlson of Chatham; 13 greatgrandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Johnson of Grand Marias.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa County, Michigan.
