Memorial services for Melvin G. Knowles, 66, of Knoxville, who died May 26, 1984 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, were held May 30 at First United Methodist Church with Revs. Wayne Hoehns and R.G. Smiley officiating.
Kris VanVark was organist.
Mr. Knowles was born on July 12, 1917 in Grinnell, the son of Claude and Mabel Martindale Knowles.
He lived in Knoxville most of his life. For several years he owned and operated Southern Iowa Television Store in Knoxville.
For twelve years transmitter engineer for Radio KIOA in Des Moines. He was a consulting engineer for Christian Radio. Station KTAV in Pella, KRGS in Spencer, and KBMI in Roma, Tex.
His parents and one older brother, Max, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; two sons, Melvin of Austin, Tex. and Greg of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Claudia) Applegate of Rock Island, Ill. and Mrs. Steve (Jane) Maddison of Knoxville and three sisters, Mrs. Gale (Evelyn) Reed and Mrs. Lucille Willetts, both of Knoxville, and Mr. & C.R. (Doris) Nelson of Grand Junction, Col.
Memorials have been established to the Radio Ministry of the United Methodist Church and American Radio Missions in Pella.
