Marvin D. Swayne, 64, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at the Kansas City Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer

Marvin was born Oct. 8, 1944, in Knoxville, to Lester (Pete) and Cora Lorraine Swayne. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the Airman’s Medal for saving the life of a fellow Airman during a telephone repair accident.

Marvin retired from Sprint after 39 years of service to the telecommunications industry He was an active member of the St. Joe Pony Express Chapter of HOG.Marvin Swayne

He is survived by JoAnn Seuferling of Shawnee, Kan.; a daughter, Melissa Swayne, and a sister, Sonja (Ralph) Blackman of Indianola and many other relatives and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Lyle.

Graveside funeral services were held on Feb. 27 at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Memorials can be made to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Woman Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64145, or Hospice of Central Iowa.
