Services for James Vernon, 54, Orfino, Idaho, who died June 12, 1983 at St. Joseph Hospital, were held June 15 at the Clarkston Church of God. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Oliver Bittleston officaited at the services. Pallbearers were Elmer, Russell, and Ray Pederson, and Mike, Wayne and Randy Lee.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Jolly, Clark Fuller, Bob Adams, Wally Rugg, Bill Druary, and Cal Miller. Mr. Vernon was born August 9, 1928, at Knoxville, the son of Slade and Florence Vernon. He worked for the Forest Service in Montana for many years before transferring to the Clearwater Forest.

He was employed on the Kelly Creek Ranger District for ten years before moving to the Supervisors office as fire control officer.
He retired in 1978.

He married Helen Pederson at Orofino on April 3, 1970. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was the present commander of the Orofino Post. He was a past noble grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a past commander of the American Legion, and a member of the Bluebell Rebekah Lodge and the Lewiston Jim Beam Bottle Club.

He is survived by his wife Helen; son, Jimmy of Pella; and mother, Florence Vernon and brother Gail, of Knoxville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
