Services for Jack L. Vander Linden, 56, Newton, who died on Nov. 11, 1992 of cancer at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, were ‘Nov. 14 at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton. Burial was at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

The Rev. F. William Kaska officiated at the service.

Jack was born on Jan. 12, 1936, in Knoxville, the son of Ira and Belle Sims Vander Linden. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School.

He lived in Monroe until 1964, when he moved to Houston, Texas. Jack worked as a dispatcher for the GiIlford-Hill Cement Corporation in Houston, Texas.

He moved to Newton in 1984. He was married to Carol K. Waskow on April 13, 1990 in Knoxville.

He was a member of the Amercian Legion Post No. 111 and the Moose Lodge No. 923. He was a veteran of the Korean war, serving in Japan and Korea.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ira Vander Linden; and one sister, Louise Steele.

Survivors include his wife of Newton; three sons, Jack R. “Sonny” Vander Linden of Oskaloosa, Rick Minard and Jack Millard, both of Harvey; two step-sons, Mark Metz of Newton and Doug of the state of Texas; three step-daughters, Debbra Irwin of Newton, Barbara Schmidt of Baxter and Sherry of the state of Texas; four brothers, Dale Vander Linden of Baxter, Ray Vander Linden of Joplin, Mo., Robert Vander Linden of Ankeny and Paul Vander Linden of Pershing; five sisters, Ruth Mikesell and Lucy Urias, both of Newton, Edna May Nelson of Melcher, Muriel Share of Knoxville and Viola Knapp of Waterloo; and several grandchildren.

Memorials may be left in his name at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.
