Services for Harold Fred Zeck, 75, of Knoxville, who died November 8, at Mercy Medical
Center in Des Moines, were held November 12, 1994, at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home
in Knoxville.
Burial was at Red Rock Cemetery. Don Dennison and David Nuckols officiated
at the services. Music was provided by Don and Pam Dennison, and David and Rose
Anne Nuckols. Pallbearers were Charles Zeck, Grant McClune, Russell Klein, Patrick
Murphy, Phil Akantara, and Bruce Chambers. Honorary pallbearers were Vern Nash,
Bill Thomas, Terry Harvey, George Scott, Lee McClune, Tom Lunsford, Merle Vickroy,
and Harlan Chandler.
Harold was born May 2, 1919, in Rolfe the son of Ray Allen
and Fee Anna Veach Zeck. The family lived in Dixon, IL., Bradgate, Fayette and Iowa
Falls before moving to Knoxville in 1932.
He attended Knoxville schools and began
working in the coal mining strip pits and rock quarries around the age of 15. He
served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as member of the 22nd Construction Battalion
(Seabees). He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, including Attu and Kodiak.

In the 1950's, Harold and his brother Paul went into business as Zeck Brothers Conservation
Contractors. He is a member of the Church of Christ In 1960, he was united in marriage
to Margaret Murphy Ransom, in Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two
brothers, Harry and Paul, and a sister, Fern.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret;
two daughters, Karen Zeck of Knoxville, and Sheryl Zeck, of Normwalk; a stepson.
Robert L. Ransom Jr., of Mesa, Ariz ; and brothers Wayne and Clifford of Knoxville,
and Ralph, of Melcher-Dallas.
