Services for Harold W. (Woody) Conrey, 72, who died of emphysema Sunday, Feb. 11, 1990 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, were held Feb. 14 at Evans-McCleery Funeral Home.
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Rev. Theron (Tom) Conrey officiated at the services.
Pallbearers were Tom and Jack Bailey, Tony, Miller, Pat Moss, Carl Pearson and D.V Ridnouer.
Mr. Conrey was born on November 25, 1917 at Knoxville, the son of Marion and Ella Moore Conrey. A graduate of Knoxville High School, he served in the Army during World War II
He was involved in the Death March, received the Bronze Star, and was a POW for three and one half years.
He graduated from Parsons College.
He retired as a gardener from the VA Hospital in Knoxville and was a member of the Knoxville American Legion and VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
He is survived by three brothers, Duane and Clinton, both of Des Moines, and Martin of Salt Lake City, Utah; four sisters, Louise Holzworth of Knoxville, Alberta Loynachan and Hestor Glaspey, both of Adel, and Venita Woodward of Van Nuys, Ca.

Harold Conrey of Knoxville died of emphysema Sunday at Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 72.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday It Evans-McCleery Funeral Home. Burial, with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts. will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Mr. Conrey. an Army veteran of World War II, was a lifelong Knox-ville resident and retired nursing assistant at the Veterans Medical Center here.
He is survived by three brothers, Martin of Salt Lake City and Duane and Clinton, both of Des Moines; and four sisters, Louise Holzworth of Knoxville, Vanua Woodward of Van Nuys, Calif.. and Alberta Loynachon and Hestor Glaspey, both of Adel.
Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home, where the family
will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
