Fern Irene Johnson 1915-2001. Funeral services for Fern Irene Johnson, 85, of Knoxville, who died on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at
Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Friday, March 16, at Williams Funeral
Home.
Pastor Sheldon Starkenburg and Rev. Paul Tomlinson officiated at the services.
Music was provided by Janet Westberg, organist and Jim Kidder, soloist. Interment
was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Casket bearers were Brian Thomas, Brad Thomas,
Lew Brent, David Brent, Melvin Hoch, Steve De Moss, and Dennis Williams.
Fern was
born on July 24, 1915, in rural Knoxville, the daughter of Loren W. and Elizabeth
Ver Steeg Caulkins. She attended Brownlee rural school and Knoxville High School graduating with the class of
1931.
She married Rollie Johnson on December 31, 1935, at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua. They made their home in Knoxville. Fern enjoyed being a homemaker while
the children were young and later worked at Gasper Furniture Store and the Knoxville
Public Library.
She was a member of Knoxville Disciples of Christ Church.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rollie; and two brothers, Donald and Harold. She
is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Lu Anne Johnson of Wentzville,
Mo.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorna Thomas of Knoxville and Marda and Robert
Price of Huntsville, Ala.; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa in Knoxville or church of choice.
