Dorothy Louise (Klootwyk) Burford Smith, age 93, of Cassville, Missouri and formerly of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014, at the home of her son, Craig Burford.

She was born November 13, 1921, in rural Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Fred W. and Ethel L. (Sutherland) Klootwyk. On July 29, 1942, she was united in marriage to Walter V. Burford, who preceded her in death on March 8, 1971. She later married Thomas Smith, who is also deceased.

Others preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Robert Klootwyk and Lester Klootwyk, and two sisters, Mary Stevens and Winifred Balmer.

Surviving is one son, Craig Burford and his wife, Dr. Carolyn (Hunter) Burford of Cassville, Missouri; one brother, Ralph Klootwyk and his wife, Pauline of Knoxville, Iowa; three sisters, Esther Schnicker and her husband, Dick of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Dixie Larpenter of Des Moines, Iowa, and Doris Marshall of Knoxville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Courtney and Brett and one great-grandson, Russell Burford.

Dorothy grew up and received her education in Knoxville, Iowa, where she graduated from high school.

She was employed for twenty years, with Western Electric, where she retired in 1981. She was a life member of Telephone Pioneer Electric of America. Much of her life was spent in Independence, Missouri and after her retirement, she moved to Lynn Haven, Florida. Ten years ago she moved to Cassville, Missouri to make her home. She was an avid Bingo player.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2014, in Winfield Funeral Home, Knoxville, Iowa. Brent Hanna will conduct the services. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until service time Saturday in Winfield Funeral Home, Knoxville, Iowa.
