Dick Leonard Dwigans, age 88, of Knoxville, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.

Dick was born November 29, 1932, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Irvin “Pop” and Gladys “Mom” (James) Dwigans. He grew up in Knoxville and attended Knoxville High School. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. After his service, he attended the University of Iowa.

Dick was united in marriage to Evelyn Shewman on March 4, 1955. They were blessed with two children, Dave and Corrine. Dick and Evelyn enjoyed 65 years of marriage before his passing.

Dick worked as a manager at Gamble’s in Marshalltown for a short time before becoming the City Clerk in Knoxville. For over 30 years, he was a loan officer in Knoxville.

He was also a part-owner of the Lighthouse Bait Shop for several years. Dick enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, and years before, beer cans.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Dwigans; son, Dave Dwigans (Sidinia) and daughter, Corrine Raisch (Charles); grandchildren, Mikayla (Daryl) Morgan, and Rick (Jesse) Raisch; also great-grandchildren, Jack, Taylor, Paislee and Preslee.

Dick is also survived by his brother, Joe Dwigans (Betty); and brother-in-law, Ron Shewman (Jan).

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin “Pop” and Gladys “Mom” Dwigans; sister, Marilyn Dyer; and brother-in-law, Harold Dean Dyer. Dick’s wishes were to be cremated.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery. Winfield Funeral Home is assisting the family.
