Delno was born September 17, 1919 in Columbia, Iowa, the son of Frank E. and Mary E. "Kutz" Maddy. He graduated from Knoxville High School, where he won awards for his singing ability and was #1 in the State for his trombone playing.

He married Betty "Frye" on September 14, 1941, and to this union three children were born, Frank Edward, Roxanna "Sue", and Richard Eugene.

Betty passed away December 26, 1984 from cancer and Delno later married Daisy (Lenocker) Clements on March 26, 1988.

Delno farmed on the home farm in Attica, until deciding to move to Pleasantville. There he started a dairy business where he milked cows and pasteurized milk for Hiland Dairy.

He and his wife, Betty, delivered milk door-to-door, and made and sold their own Maddy Dairy Ice Cream. Later, in 1964, they started a franchise with Dairy Sweet in Monroe, Iowa.

After the death of Betty and his marriage to Daisy, they moved to the Winterset area.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy, of Winterset; two sons, Frank Maddy (Thoma Lou) of Bluff Dale, Texas and Richard Maddy (Sharon) of Bremerton, Washington; a daughter, Sue Miller (Dwain) of Oskaloosa; three step-daughters, Diana Partlow (Roger) of Menlo, Darcy Livingston (Greg) of Winterset, and Deb Stover (Paul) of Lorimor; a brother, John Maddy (Wilma) of Des Moines; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; a sister, Hollace Garrett; and a stepson, Dennis Clements.
