Funeral services for Charles William Calhoun, 74, of Anamosa, who died December
24, at the Anamosa Community Hospital, were held December 28, 1995, at the United
Methodist Church in Anamosa. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. The
Rev. Kirk Stump officiated at the services.
Charles was born February 9, 1921, in Knoxville, the son of Claude William and Violet
Huber Calhoun.
He graduated from Knoxville High School and attended the American Institute of Business
in Des Moines. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1941, and served aboard the transport
attack ship USS Fuller for about three years, and then served at Shoemaker, Calif.,
where he was discharged in 1946.
He was united in marriage to Laura Chambers on April 12, 1947, in Knoxville. He
worked for Chicago Mfg. Co. in Chicago, Ill., and E.W. Bliss Mfg. Co. in Hastings,
Mich. He was employed by Iowa Electric for 35 years, and served as commercial manager
in Armstrong until 1965, when he was transferred to the Anamosa division. He began
working in the credit department of Iowa Electric in 1971 in Cedar Rapids, until
his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was
a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was the first president of the Kiwanis
Club in Armstrong, and initiated many children's events as a member. He also served
as a Boy Scout Master for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; and a son, David of Davenport.
