Cathy Sue Hedrick was born on November 28, 1950, in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of James Cyril and Marilyn Jean (Luke) Swanson.

Cathy was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1969. She moved to Melcher-Dallas in 1977 and in 2004 to present, she made her home in Indianola.

Cathy had a long career working for the telephone company (Bell/Contel/GTE/Verizon), starting as an operator and working her way up to office manager. After retiring in 2003, she began working for the Indianola School District.

Cathy served as an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. She loved nature and camping with her fiancé, Roger, and her grandkids. She also enjoyed listening to Roger play his music and being part of his band, The Coyotes. Cathy truly had a passion for kids and could relate to them like no other person. Whether they were kids from church, the bus, or her very own grandkids, they all loved her dearly.

Cathy Hedrick passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 64 years. She was preceded in death by her father, James Cyril Swanson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Michael Hedrick, Eric Hedrick, Kyn Hedrick, Travis (Jill) Young, Joey (Jessie) Young, and Tracie Young-Baker; mother, Marilyn Swanson; fiancé, Roger Young; siblings, Candy (Keith) Lundy, James “Danny” Swanson, Roy (Sherry) Swanson, Christy (Rand) Mecham, Connie (Dean) Gilchrist, Jon Swanson, Mark (Debbie) Swanson and Joel (Laura) Swanson; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Community of Christ Church in Knoxville with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. The burial of ashes will be at a later date.

A visitation will be held at the Community of Christ Church on Tuesday, April 7 from 6-8 p.m.
