William “Bill” Simpson was born June 20, 1933 in Hiteman to Ralph and Amelia (Leggett) Simpson.
He attended school and graduated from high school in Knoxville, Iowa with the Class of 1943.
On Sept. 14, 1958, he married Phyllis Coulter in Coon Rapids.
He worked with Savings & Loan Associations in Des Moines and Ames, IA before moving to Mitchell, SD in November of 1968. He managed the Mitchell Home Savings & Loan Association.
During retirement, he was a self-employed painter, worked for Fischer Rounds & Associates and was the grounds keeper at the Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell.
William R. Bill Simpson, 81, of Mitchell died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD. Funeral services will be Monday, December 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, JoAnna May; sister-in-law, Marilyn Simpson; brothers-in-law, Beryl Hall and Dean Stevenson and a niece, Linda Snell.
He is survived by two children, Julie Backous, Aberdeen, SD and Mike Simpson, Aurora, CO; two grandchildren, Jessy Martinez, Aberdeen, SD and Taylor Simpson, Aurora, CO; two great grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Stevenson and a brother Ron Simpson both of Knoxville, IA; his Aunt Sally Simpson of Albia, IA; special friend, Linna Johnston, Mitchell, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell.
