Funeral services for Audrey Ann (Hopkins) Thompson, 65, of Knoxville, who died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her home, were held Tuesday, April 2, at First Assembly of God Church in Knoxville. Rev. Michael Miller officiated at the services. Music was provided by Jean Smith and Libbie Miller, vocalists and Darlene Mooberry, organist.
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in rural Knoxville. Casket bearers were Chris and Jon Allen, Eric and Mike Owens, and Kyle and Josh Thompson. Honorary casket bearers were Adam and Jason Olsen and Derek, Jimmy and Raymond Thompson.
Audrey was born on October 24, 1936 in Newton, the daughter of John Alex and Vera (Kingery) Hopkins. She was raised in Otley and attended Pella schools, graduating with the class of 1954.
She married Leonard Thompson on June 4, 1954 in Spencer.
They moved to Knoxville and Audrey worked for Bellamy Telephone Company. She and Leonard raised a large family, of which they were very proud.
After the kids were raised, Audrey went to work for the Department of Human Services. She was an income maintenance supervisor and retired in 1995 after 19 years of service.
Audrey enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and sprint car racing. She was also an accomplished seamstress and liked to travel.
Her greatest joys in life were her church and her family and she was very devoted to both of them.
She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and the First Assembly of God Church, where she had taught Sunday School for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Leonard; her sister, Geneva Gee; her brother, Leonard Hopkins; and her step-daughter, Judy Younker.
She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Cathy Moses of Knoxville and Barbara and Gary Koons of Melcher; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Kenny and Loretta, Myron and Mary, Jerry and Zo, and Paul and Anita all of Knoxville and Leonard, Jr. of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; step-son, Terry Thompson of Knoxville; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Vera Hopkins of Knoxville; five brothers, Carl Hopkins of San Diego, Calif., John Hopkins of Rialto, Calif., Gary Hopkins of Waverly, Minn., Vern Hopkins of Topeka, Kan. and Dick Hopkins of Knoxville; a sister, Judy Mika of Mexico, Mo.; and many other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Children's Camp Fund or Sunday School Fund.
