Jack Dixon Whaley, of Maxwell died of pneumonia Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Maxwell First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.

Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center.
Mr. Whaley was born Jul 24, 1915 in Harvey, Iowa, the son of John L. Whaley and Fern Olive Dixon (b.1888-d.1940)

After graduating from Knoxville, Iowa high school in 1934, Jack was united in marriage to Helen Leora Hubbard. He had lived in Maxwell most of his life.

He was a farmer and a Navy veteran of World War II He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. American Legion and Masonic Lodge, and was a former 4H leader.

He had served on the district and state conservation boards, school board and Story County D.H.I. A. Testing Association Board and had been recognized as "Citizen of the Year" in Maxwell.

He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Surviving are three sons, Dennis of Nevada, Dale of Gladbook and Dean Michael (Linda Cheryl Johnson) of Manson; two brothers, Warren of Knoxville and Robert Nashville, Tenn; and three sisters, Frances Smith of Hartford, Betty Clark of Fairfield and Martha Hyde of Fullerton, Calif.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p. today at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell, where a 5 p.m. Masonic service will be held.
