Thomas Lee Tucker was born December 5, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of L. Don Tucker and Vera L. (Harman) Tucker.
On May 5, 1948 Thomas was united in marriage to Barbara Jeaninne Pence and to this union two sons were born, Don and John.
Tom graduated from Knoxville High School and then attended Central College in Pella.
Tom worked as an automobile dealer with his father. He then sold insurance and real estate with Cecil Galvin. Prior to his retirement, Tom was a vice-president and loan officer for Iowa State Savings Bank. He and Jeaninne also owned and operated a Laundromat for 20 years.
In his spare time, Tom enjoyed collecting and restoring Model T cars. He was an avid hunter, especially with a bow, and did taxidermy work.
Tom was active in community affairs and was a member of Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow; served on the volunteer fire department for 30 years and was a 50 year plus member of the Masonic Lodge.
He had also served on the City Council, was a member of the Y’s Mens Club and the Sportsmen’s Club. Tom was also recently inducted into the Knoxville Athletic Hall of Fame for track.
Tom passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 83 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Rhiannon (16), grandson, Tim (31) and his wife, Jeaninne in 2006.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Don L. (Cheryl) of Knoxville and John T. of Chicago; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; sister, Terri Tutell of Sun City, Arizona and many other family members and friends.
