Sandra Smith was born June 10, 1963, in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Bill
Duane and Beverly Jean (Chambers) Vande Kamp. Sandy lived all her life in Knoxville
and was a graduate of Knoxville High School, Class of 1981.
After high school she married Daniel “Tiny” Rankin. They were blessed with two children
Jeremy and Staci. They later divorced. On June 4, 1998 Sandra and Kenneth Wayne
Smith were united in marriage in Florida, on a beach overlooking the ocean. Sandy
and Kenny enjoyed being together; riding their Harley-Davidson, yard work, gardening,
and her children.

Sandy had worked in Des Moines for several years after high school. She was currently
an office manager for State Farm Insurance in Knoxville, where she had been employed
for 10 years.

Sandra passed away Saturday afternoon, June 16, 2012, at her home with her family.
She was 49 years and six days of age.

Sandy is survived by her husband Kenny Smith; her children Jeremy Scott Rankin,
Staci Lyn Rankin and fiancé Todd Butler, and one grandson Braxton Butler all of
Knoxville. Sandy is also survived by her parents Bill and Jean Vande Kamp of Knoxville;
her sister Debbie Goodnight and husband Gary of Palm Bay, Florida and her brother
Steve Vande Kamp and his wife Tay of rural Knoxville.

Visitation for Sandy will be held from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June
20, 2012, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville with Sandy’s family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday June 21st also
at the Winfield Funeral Home with Elder Bill McDonald officiating.

A memorial has been established to Sandy’s family and will be used for expenses
and donated at a later date.
