Lloyd H. Shappell, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the University
of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born July 16, 1942, at Knoxville, Iowa, the
son of Ralph and Florence Curtis Shappell. Early in his adult life he did maintenance
work for Paul Van Zee Motors in Oskaloosa.
On March 23, 1974, he was united in marriage
to Linda Kay Lenox at Oskaloosa. In 1972, he began working for Pella Rolscreen,
now Pella Corporation; he retired from there in 1996 due to ill health. He was a
very active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. At church he
enjoyed helping set up tables and chairs in the gymnasium for events, going to Sunday
morning coffeetime, and serving and greeting the bus kids. He enjoyed woodworking,
and delighted in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
His
family includes his wife of over 36 years: Linda Shappell of Oskaloosa; a son: Jeff
Shappell of Ottumwa; two daughters: Jennifer Shappell (& Lee Van Skike) of Ottumwa,
and Michelle (& Shane) Hearn of Beacon; 6 grandchildren; two brothers: Bill Shappell
of Oskaloosa, and Don (& Roxanne) Shappell of Des Moines; two sisters: LuVerne Mahon
of Oskaloosa ,and Betty McBride of Farmersville, Virginia.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, a grandson: Taylor; two brothers: Corwin and Lee Shappell; and two
sisters: Joann and Francis. Funeral services for Lloyd Shappell will be held Tuesday,
November 30, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa,
with Reverend Harold Schutte and Reverend Michael Dotson officiating. Burial will
be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of
the arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday after 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral
Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday evening from 5-7 to
greet friends and relatives.
