Arlen Ray Rowland, 68, was born on October 31, 1951, to James Alvin and Laura Smith Rowland in Knoxville, Iowa. He was the youngest of four siblings raised on the family farm near Columbia, Iowa where he developed his love for Oliver tractors, purebred Holstein cows, Collie dogs, and Belgian Draft Horses.

He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1969. He also attended Faith Baptist College and Iowa State University.

On March 1, 1975, Arlen was united in marriage to Dawn Fawcett at Knoxville, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Deborah and Heidi. Arlen dairy farmed for himself and others throughout the years.

He drove a semi on the side to make sure his family was provided for when farming years were lean. He passed down his love of farming and animals to his daughters they farmed, in Columbia and Ottumwa, and sold their farm and herd of Elite Holsteins in 2009when his health no longer allowed him to do the work he loved, and moved to Montezuma to be closer to their family.

Arlen enjoyed his family but took pride in his grandsons most of all. He loved cooking, gardening, talking football with his grandson, Lucas, Iowa State football and basketball, and was a farmer til the very end.

The only thing more important to him was His relationship with Jesus Christ and sharing it with everyone he knew. Over the years Arlen was a youth leader and lead songs during worship when his health enabled him to attend church.

Even with declining health, he worshipped from home as a member of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
