Memorial services for Leona Proffitt, who died unexpectedly following the noon meal at Griffin Nursing Home on Friday, June 24, were held from the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville on Monday, June 27 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Leonard E. Deaver officiating.

Providing the music was organist, Anna Oscarson.
Interment was at Graceland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Glenn West, Howard Dooley, Ray Proffitt and Amos Zoutte.

Leona was born March 18, 1898 in Marion County, Iowa to W.W. and Florence Coffman Cleland. She was united in marriage to Willard Proffitt on October 14, 1920 at Knoxville. The couple moved to Pleasantville where he worked as a mechanic and also operated a grocery store. He was employed by the Iowa Highway Department and the family moved to Knoxville where they lived for 43 years Her husband preceded her in death on October 20, 1971.

Leona had been a resident at the nursing home since
May 31.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jay Courtney (Jean) of Pleasantville and Mrs. Seward Cross of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one son, Rodney C. of Nacortes, Wash.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
