Services for Dwight Delano Poffenbarger, 61, of Knoxville, who died June 7, in Iowa
Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, was held June 10, 1994, at First United
Methodist Church in Knoxville.
Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Pastor
Bob Ward officiated at the services. Music was provided by Linda Gehling, organist,
and Paul Davids, vocalist and guitarist. Pallbearers were Frank De Jong, Marvin
Meppelink, Henry Roozeboom, Rich Hiemstra, Wendell Robinson, and Kenneth Sytsma.
Dwight was born November 9, 1932, in Knoxville, the son of Eli and Mildred Amos Poffenbarger.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951. He served four years in the Air
Force, and was employed by the Air Guard from 1956-1981. He also enjoyed farming
and was awarded “Farmer of the Year” in 1993.
He was united in marriage on February 19, 1956, to Emma Kline, in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his father, Eli.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred of Knoxville; his wife, Emma; two sons,
Mike and Bryan, both of Knoxville; a sister, Dixie Murphy of Urbana, Ill.; two brothers,
John of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Don of Indianola; one grandson, and many other
relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church
Radio Ministry.
Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.
