Carrie K. (McMillen) Stevens, age 63, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Sunday evening, November 3, 2013 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
Carrie was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on August 9, 1950, the daughter of Worth Rudolph and Laverne (Williams) McMillen. Carrie was raised in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School, Class of 1968.
After graduation Carrie began working with Hy-Vee. She worked with Hy-Vee for 40 years before she retired and began working with the Knoxville Community Schools, of which she was currently employed.
On August 11, 1967, in Knoxville, Iowa, Carrie and Jerry L. Stevens were united in Marriage. They were blessed with 40 years of marriage and two children: Stacie and Mistie. Jerry passed away on April 3, 2008.
Carrie enjoyed her home. She liked baking and cooking, she enjoyed children and especially loved her grandchildren. She was gifted at sewing and often would give blankets as gifts.
Carrie is survived by her daughters, Stacie Nichols and husband Scott of Pleasant Hill and Mistie Stevens-Young and husband Creighton Young of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Eric Nichols, Kaelyn Nichols and Baby Young due on December 15th. Carrie is also survived by her three siblings, Jerry McMillen, Connie Douthit and husband Quint, and Kelly McMillen and wife Marilyn.
She was preceded by her parents, Worth and Laverne McMillen; husband, Jerry L. Stevens; brother, Bill McMillen; and sister-in-laws, Jo McMillen and Roberta McMillen.
Visitation for Carrie will begin at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, with Carrie’s family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 7th, at the Winfield Funeral Home, with Pastor Melvin Voss officiating. Burial will follow services at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.
A memorial has been established to the Boy Scout Troop 98 of Pleasant Hill, Iowa for use with their Eagle Scout community service projects.
