Funeral services for Velta Adaline (Robuck) Johnston, who died August 20 at her home in Knoxville, were held August 23 from the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Leonard E. Deaver officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery under the direction of Evans McCleery Funeral Service.
Casketbearers were Don Rodgers, Don Vanden Berg, Jim Bellamy, Lew Job, Dick Darnell, Lee Moon, Cliff Danner and Ned Job. Mrs. Lois Anderson, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Esther Miller, soloist.
Velta Johnston, daughter of John Garriett and Lydia Ann Brause Robuck, was born in Marion County, Iowa, March 25, 1909.
She lived in Marion County and Knoxville all her life. She attended rural school and later graduated from
Knoxville High School in 1927.
Mrs. Johnston was a prominent businesswoman and civic leader. She was employed for three years as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools; for six years as secretary for the Marion County Farm Bureau; and: then was secretary and Trust Officer of the Community National Bank and Trust Company for 28 years, retiring in 1964.
She was united in marriage to Joe M. Johnston December 30, 1963. He died in 1972. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the United Methodist Women and treasurer of the Susannah Circle.
She was a charter member of the Knoxville Women's Club, a member of Chapter LW, P.E.0. and had served as its treasurer until recently; and was active in many civic affairs during her years of employment.
Surviving her are three stepchildren, Mrs. Stuart (Martha) Krohn of Des Moines, Joseph Johnston of Knoxville, and Mrs. Melvin (Isabel) Hatfield of Lincoln, Neb.; one sister, Mrs.
Lester (Dana) Loynachan of
Harvey; and four nephews.
