Bettie Lou Dailey passed away on July 4, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born in Knoxville, Iowa on October 1, 1930, To Henry and Ivah Deeringer. Bettie grew up always caring for humans and animals, alike. Even as years progressed, she always shared memories of her beloved dog, Screwball. There wasn’t a child or dog that didn’t get her attention.
Over the years, she built a life centered on family, especially her grandchildren, service to others, country western music, clogging, crafting, traveling to music festivals, being with her cherished husband, George. She married the love of her life George Dailey on September 18th, 1984. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before his passing. To that union they had four children, Rickey Dailey, Kathie Chambers, Jamie Dailey, and Ann Wallace.
Bettie was known for being a nurse’s aide on the labor and delivery unit, while taking pride in her work while at the hospital, being especially caring and gentle with her patients. She was active in all of her children’s lives and never missed one of their activities. She also loved working in her garden, loved to share her bounty of produce and homemade canned treats. Her three-berry jam was a famous favorite. She cherished family traditions, especially those at Christmas time.
During this season you could find her in the kitchen baking up several different homemade pies, peanut clusters, turkey for Christmas day, and clogging while the family would sing and play the guitar in her living room for a “Christmas concert” on Christmas Eve.
To her grandkid, she was known to always have pop in the fridge, extra chocolates to share, sharing stories about her life, her chocolate chip cookies, teaching them to play solitaire and to two-step, using New Skin to put on any cuts or scrapes, and offering up unconditional love to all.
Bettie loved getting her hair done and would never leave the house without her lipstick, her nails polished, and a little dab of Chanel #5.
She leaves behind her children Rickey (Lois) Dailey, Kathie (Larry) Chambers, Ann (Jack) Wallace; her grandchildren: Jackie (Massimo) Dailey, Matt (Katie) Dailey, Tiffany (Brian) Bushnell, Chris Chambers, Cory (Shannan) Chambers, Kelly (Zach) Gillette, Heidi (Steve) Wallace, Aimee (Derrek) Bailey and Whitney (Adrian) Daiz; great grandchildren: Taylor, Emma, Norah, Ryland, Edwardo, Serena, Joshua, Lorenzo, Mac, Brody, Colsen, Thomas (Sarah), Aidan (Isabel), Hudson, Mia and Finn; her great great grandchild, Evie Bailey.
Bettie is preceded in death by her husband, George Dailey; her son, Jamie Dailey; siblings: Pete Deeringer, Audrey Brooks, Barbara Snyder and Wilma Derringer; her parents Henry and Ivah Deeringer.
They showed compassion and became a comfort in the last few years of Bettie’s life. We’d also like to extend gratitude to Suncrest Hospice for their support and care to Bettie and her family in the last few weeks.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Bettie will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville.
