Doris May (Porter) Dykstra was born on January 20, 1919 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph Hamlin and Elizabeth Anne (Sowden) Porter.

She was united in marriage to Leo Clark Dykstra on December 28, 1937. The couple lived on a farm north of Knoxville most of their lives. Doris was the office manager at Bingley and Dykstra Sale Barn for over 40 years.

She retired in 1989 at the age of 70 years. She moved to Park Lane in 2001 where she resided until just recently.

Doris was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also an active member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was part of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling and her grandchildren looked forward to their annual trips with her.

Doris passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Griffins Nursing Center in Knoxville at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo; son, Ted Dykstra; and sisters, Marjorie Larson and Edith Kaster.

Those left to cherish her memory her daughter, Patricia (John) Haning; daughter-in-law, Mary Dee Dykstra; brother, Ralph (Dorothy) Porter; grandchildren, Randal (Sharon) Haning, Deborah Haning, Anthony (Deb) Haning, Ted (Shannon) Dykstra II, Tammy (Scott) Laird, Elizabeth (Gary) Hadler, Todd (Melanie) Dykstra and Tim (Christy) Dykstra; and 26 great grandchildren.

A visitation will held on Sunday, November 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville with Rev. Elizabeth Hadler, Rev. Lane Riggle and Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
