Harriett Sue (Pohl) Carson, 63, passed away on June 24, 2013 in Austin, Texas with her two daughters at her side.

She was born in Knoxville, Iowa on October 19, 1949, to David Harry and Mary Adaline (Hollingshead) Pohl. She attended school in Knoxville and graduated from Big Spring, Texas High School in 1968. Sue graduated from McMurry College with a Bachelor’s degree.

She moved to San Marcos in the late 70s to pursue her interest in photography and took courses at Southwest Texas State University.

She married John Douglas Carson on February 4, 1984, and they made their home in San Marcos. They were the parents of two daughters, Amanda Sue and Jennifer Rose. Their family attended First United Methodist Church in San Marcos.

Both Sues professional and personal career centered around her passion for caring for and helping others. From work in the medical field, motherhood, volunteerism in her church, and caregiving for those less capable than she, Sue selflessly gave of herself to others in all aspects of her life. Her adventurous spirit and contagious laughter brought happiness to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Doug.

She is survived by her daughters Amanda Sue Ramirez (John Moses) and Jennifer Rose Carson of San Marcos, her granddaughter Madison Grace Ramirez, her sisters Rev. Martha Bennett and Sara Simonds, and her brother, David Pohl.

She is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet relatives and friends for visitation on June 28, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in San Marcos, with burial at San Marcos Cemetery.
