Funeral services for Catherine Isabel (Tonda) Black, 85, of Knoxville, who died on Sunday,
November 18, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, will be held on Wednesday, November
21, at Williams Funeral Home. Rev. Peter J. Peterson will officiate at the services.
Jim Kidder will be organist.

Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Chris, Jonathon,
Kelly and Michael Brand, Kevin Davis and Terry Thomas. Honorary casketbearers will
be Alexandra, Christopher, Michala and Nicholas Brand, Tyler Brand, Holly Davis,
and Keaton and Lou Thomas.

Catherine was born on May 11, 1916, in Everest, Iowa She was the daughter of Margaret
Minsent and Tony Tonda. She graduated from Knoxville High School.

She married Rodney Wallace Black on June 10, 1936, in Red Rock, Iowa. To this union
two daughters were born.

Catherine always raised a big garden during the summer and canned many jars of fruit
and vegetables. When not gardening, she could be found embroidering. She also worked
around the farm with Rodney.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the OES-Order
of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rodney; and four brothers, Joe,
Tony, Frank, and Henderson. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois
and Howard Davis and Elizabeth and Henry Brand, all of Knoxville; a brother, Richard
Tonda of Knoxville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren..

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Radio Ministry.
