Gordon Agan, age 82, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, surrounded by his family at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Winfield/Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville. Gordon’s family will be present to greet friends and relatives. At 6:00 pm, a Celebration of Life will be held, with Bill McDonald officiating.

Gordon was born on October 31, 1940, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Don and Madge Agan. He was the oldest of two boys born to the couple. Gordon grew up in Knoxville and attended Knoxville Schools, graduating with the class of 1958. Following high school, he attended the University of Iowa for 2 years. After college, he joined his father’s plumbing and heating business. He owned and operated Agan Plumbing and Heating from 1975-2000 and was considered one of the “Best” sheet metal guys around.

Gordon was also a firefighter for the Knoxville Fire Department; Badge #1. He was very proud of his time in the fire department.

Gordon was united in marriage to Carol Dawn Mitchell “the love of his life.” They met at school in the study hall. He “sweet-talked” to her parents, giving them flowers and strawberries, and Carol Dawn says that her parents loved him before she did. Gordon and Carol Dawn were blessed with two children, Steve and Matt.

Gordon enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will especially be remembered by his family for the fishing trips to Canada and Branson. Gordon was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He really liked watching the girls’ NCAA Tournament this year. Gordon’s greatest joy was his family. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events. Gordon was loved by everyone he encountered. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carol Dawn Agan; children, Steve Agan and his wife, Vickie, and Matt Agan and his wife, Shawn; grandchildren, Sarah Payne and her husband Ken, Brad Agan, Jac Agan and his wife Samantha, and Jada Agan.Gordon Agan

He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Otis, Madelyn, and Michael: also, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Madge Agan; and his brother, Marvin Agan.

Memorials may be given in Gordon’s name to Knoxville Fire and Rescue.
